The Direct Support Overnight Counselor has the responsibility for client support in evening through morning, as well as, clerical support.

 

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for ensuring the health and safety of residents throughout the night

 

  • Support clients through their evening and morning routine and help support resident's transition to begin their day

 

  • Clerical office duties

 

  • Maintain safe and therapeutic environment and routines

 

Essential Functions

  • Issuing and supervision of evening and morning medication                                                                                          
  • Securing all doors/windows and arming /disarming alarm system                                                                                                    
  • Assisting clients with problems as they arise; crisis intervention                                                                                                    
  • Supervising clients daily morning routine (I.e. managing time for work preparation, appropriate dress, proper hygiene, etc.)                                                                                
  • Daily entries in House Log                                        
  • Seeks supervision when unable to make decisions
  • Clerical office duties                              
  • Cooperates with the licensee or DDD staff in any inspection or investigation                    
  • Must check email and voicemail on a daily basis                                                                                
  • Other responsibilities as assigned

Reporting

  • Provide overnight support coverage from 10 pm to 9 AM Sunday night thru Friday morning and 10 PM to 10 AM Friday night thru Sunday morning          
  • Checks the facility as per security schedule and documents the attendance/activity of the clients.                                                                                                 
  • Lock and secure all doors and windows in the house and turn off all lights in the residential offices                                                  
  • Reports to House Manager and/or Shared Housing Supervisor

Educational Requirements

  • Shall be at least 21 years of age and have a high school diploma or equivalent  

Work Experience Requirement

  • 2 years' experience with people with developmental disabilities preferred

 

Skills/Abilities

  • Excellent communication skills and ability to foster community partnerships and relationships with people across a spectrum of intellectual and developmental disabilities.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgement and respond quickly to crises and emergencies; ability to prevent or minimize crises.
  • Conflict resolution skills.
  • Computer skills required
  • Knowledge of MS Word and Excel preferred

Special Working Conditions/Physical/Requirements Working Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

  • Valid driving license is required
  • Must hold a high school diploma
  • Valid New Jersey driver's license is required
  • Must hold CPR/First Aid Valid Certification
  • Successful clearance of NJ background check
  • Successful clearance of Drug Screening
  • Has fulfilled the necessary training requirements and is in good standing in order to bill Medicaid for Support and Community Care Waiver (CCW) Services and CDS
