The Special Projects Coordinator will develop and monitor transition services for the Transitions Program. This includes monitoring and/or coordinating programs relative to the Transitions Program, as well as, interaction with other supervisors and administrative staff in support of transitions and special projects. The position will facilitate the achievement of the desired post-school outcomes for students with disabilities. The Special Projects Coordinator will also work to create links and community exposure for students in vocational and developmental training, as well as, daily living skills and placement in our Residential facility. This Coordinator will also be responsible for developing, implementing and/or monitoring of special projects/grant implementation and monitoring as needed.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop new clients for placement within JESPY House
  • Assist in coordination, supervision, and evaluation of students in vocational training sites
  • Secure in-school and community job placements in collaboration with the WREE for students ages 18-21
  • Refer students for transition evaluations as necessary
  • Develop appropriate, measurable vocational goals and objectives for transition clients
  • Provide written report of student progress at annual review
  • Complete the Transition Services Component of the IEP
  • Conduct individualized transition planning meetings with parents and/or students
  • Educate parents by distributing information on transition issues, hosting parent information meetings, and scheduling tours of facility
  • Encourage parent participation in program development, implementation and evaluation
  • Respond promptly to questions and parent concerns
  • Maintain required paperwork
  • Assist in monitoring of strategic planning goals
  • Provide effective guidance and technical assistance to staff, especially to those in need of improvement of performance
  • Encourage professional development of staff including planning, implementation and evaluation of staff development activities regarding transition services
  • Conduct regularly scheduled staff meetings to discuss and resolve staff and program issues and concerns as needed
  • Assist in grant writing activities as needed
  • Assist in monitoring special project and grant implementation/reporting deadlines
  • Implement and/or monitor special projects

Financial Reporting

  • Develop and monitor budgets of Transitions, Special projects/Grant distribution.
  • Develop and monitor metrics relative to transitions and grant/special project
  • Identify donors or companies that may donate supplies for various program needs and create incentive brochures to create donor relationships.

Outreach

  • Work collaboratively with representatives of outside agencies.
  • Refer students to the other outside support agencies as appropriate
  • Use community resources to enhance instructional programming.
  • Develop community relationships relative to transitional services and Community Based Supports/Residence 

Other Responsibilities

  • Other responsibilities that may arise within the job scope
  • Transport clients using agency van as needed

 

Qualifications

Education Requirement:

  • College degree in related area or 5 years' experience in a related field
  • Advanced degree in related area desirable
  • Knowledge of the administrative regulations for vocational and transition services

Work Experience Requirement:

  • Three or more years of experience working with the intellectually and developmentally disabled
  • Three or more years of vocational experience
  • Independent work ethic
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Professional appearance and demeanor
  • Excellent writing skills
  • Ability to multi-task, schedule and facilitate both short and long-term projects
  • Ability to maintain a positive and flexible attitude toward daily responsibilities, colleagues and schedule

 

Skills/Abilities:

  • Excellent communication skills and ability to foster community partnerships and relationships with people across a spectrum of intellectual and developmental disabilities.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgement and respond quickly to crises and emergencies; ability to prevent or minimize crises.
  • Conflict resolution skills.
  • Excellent computer skills including a working knowledge of MS Word, Excel.

Special Working Conditions/Physical/Requirements

  • Full Time Work Week: 9am -5pm
  • Must be available for coverage on some weekends and after 5pm when required.
  • Valid driving license is required.
